Above are the storyboard and some of the raw footage I have collected so far for my project. The storyboard has some empty spots where I don’t know exactly what music/sound clip I will edit to go with the footage.

My ideas for the video was to basically create a short documentary about my radio show, that basically details the story of what my show is and how it came to be. I will use a lot of the audio I made for my audio story, but it won’t follow exactly the same template and story that I originally created.

The goal is to create a very professional looking video that I will be able to post and use for advertising my show. Most of the audio will come from me talking on the show and I will find a short free clip of music that I can put subtly in the background of the show.

In today’s political and social climate, many things are changing and being brought to the front. This blog was created for my COM210 class, at Washington State University in Pullman, WA, where I am a student. Mostly though, the blog is about showcasing talented artists and sharing their stories through my lens. My perspective is that of a white college student whose experiences learning and empathizing with the music and art of black and minority women have helped shape my path towards activism, education, and an overall a deeper responsibility to inform and give space for them to speak their piece. My perspective will be shown through how I choose artists and how I discuss them, but the purpose of this blog first and foremost is to highlight the dedication, sacrifice, and artistry of black women working and creating spaces for themselves in the very male-dominated music industry. While the discussion and sharing of a black woman’s perspective will always be political because of the world we live in, this blog is a safe space for anyone of any political alignment. My goal is to bring to light the talent and ideas of amazing women for the sake of appreciation for how their music has affected me, and the power of sharing unheard voices. I want Black Girl Magic to simply be a positive source of information and content at a time when the narrative is so often negative. For the purpose of identification, my name is Colin Finch, but this about me will be vague because I want to yield the space of my blog to the stories of these women. Please feel free to share and spread the word if an artist resonates with you. Music breeds empathy, and empathy breeds compassion. I am of course not perfect, but I will work hard to present this art meaningfully and informatively.
